Lyrics: William H. Bathurst
Music: EVANS

O, for a faith that will not shrink,
Though pressed by every foe,
That will not tremble on the brink
Of any earthly woe!

That will not murmur nor complain
Beneath the chastening rod,
But, in the hour of grief or pain,
Will lean upon its God.

A faith that shines more bright and clear
When tempests rage without;
That when in danger knows no fear,
In darkness feels no doubt.

Lord, give me such a faith as this,
And then, whate’er may come,
I’ll taste, e’en here, the hallowed bliss
Of an eternal home.

    Thank-you so much for posting this song. The only thing is that I didn’t recognize the tune as it sounded like Happy the Home. Do you happen to have the music for the original tune for O For a Faith? I found it on another website http://www.kunstderfuge.com/hymns.htm, but the tempo was too fast for me. I wanted it at the slow tempo like you have it, but to that other tune.

    Also, there are two other stanzas two this song which I list below and would love to see them added. The first one I list is very precious to me.

    That bears, unmoved, the world’s dread frown
    Nor heeds its scornful smile;
    That seas of trouble cannot drown,
    Nor Satan’s arts beguile.

    A faith that keeps the narrow way
    Till life’s last hour is fled,
    And with a pure and heavenly ray
    Lights up a dying bed.

    I wonder if it would be possible to have some of these done with the lyrics?
