How The Fire Fell

June 15th, 2010

Lyrics: Johnson Oatman, Jr.
Music: Miriam E. Oatman

O I love to tell the blessed story
Since the Lord sanctified me;
For my soul received a flood of glory
When the Lord sanctified me.

Refrain:
O I never shall forget how the fire fell,
How the fire fell, how the fire fell.
O I never shall forget how the fire fell
When the Lord sanctified me.

All my doubts and fears are gone forever
Since the Lord sanctified me;
For His peace flowed o’er me like a river
When the Lord sanctified me.

To the world no more my heart is turning
Since the Lord sanctified me;
For on me His Spirit fell with burning
When the Lord sanctified me.

There’s a crown awaiting me in Heaven
Since the Lord sanctified me;
For a heart made clean to me was given
When the Lord sanctified me.

Let Jesus Come Into Your Heart

June 11th, 2010

Here’s another hymn by Leila N. Morris. There’s an interesting history about the author of this hymn.

Lyrics and Music: Leila N. Morris

If you are tired of the load of your sin,
Let Jesus come into your heart;
If you desire a new life to begin,
Let Jesus come into your heart.

Refrain:
Just now, your doubtings give o’er;
Just now, reject Him no more;
Just now, throw open the door;
Let Jesus come into your heart.

If it’s for purity now that you sigh,
Let Jesus come into your heart;
Fountains for cleansing are flowing nearby,
Let Jesus come into your heart.

If there’s a tempest your voice cannot still,
Let Jesus come into your heart;
If there’s a void this world never can fill,
Let Jesus come into your heart.

If you would join the glad songs of the blest,
Let Jesus come into your heart;
If you would enter the mansions of rest,
Let Jesus come into your heart.

Holiness Unto The Lord

June 8th, 2010

Lyrics and Music: Leila N. Morris

“Called unto holiness,” church of our God,
Purchase of Jesus, redeemed by His blood;
Called from the world and its idols to flee,
Called from the bondage of sin to be free.

Refrain:
“Holiness unto the Lord” is our watchword and song.
“Holiness unto the Lord” as we’re marching along.
Sing it, shout it, loud and long,
“Holiness unto the Lord,” now and forever.

“Called unto holiness,” children of light,
Walking with Jesus in garments of white;
Raiment unsullied, nor tarnished with sin;
God’s Holy Spirit abiding within.

“Called unto holiness,” praise His dear Name!
This blessed secret to faith now made plain:
Not our own righteousness, but Christ within,
Living, and reigning, and saving from sin.

“Called unto holiness,” bride of the Lamb,
Waiting the Bridegroom’s returning again!
Lift up your heads, for the day draweth near
When in His beauty the King shall appear.

Ring The Bells Of Heaven

June 5th, 2010

Lyrics: William O. Cushing
Music: George F. Root

Ring the bells of Heaven! There is joy today,
For a soul, returning from the wild!
See, the Father meets him out upon the way,
Welcoming His weary, wandering child.

Refrain:
Glory! Glory! How the angels sing:
Glory! Glory! How the loud harps ring!
’Tis the ransomed army, like a mighty sea,
Pealing forth the anthem of the free.

Ring the bells of Heaven! There is joy today,
For the wanderer now is reconciled;
Yes, a soul is rescued from his sinful way,
And is born anew a ransomed child.

Ring the bells of Heaven! Spread the feast today!
Angels, swell the glad triumphant strain!
Tell the joyful tidings, bear it far away!
For a precious soul is born again.

Never Give Up

June 1st, 2010

Here’s an encouraging hymn that speaks for itself. It brings to mind James 1:2-4 –  “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Lyrics: Fanny J. Crosby
Music: Ira A. Sankey

Never be sad or desponding,
If thou hast faith to believe.
Grace, for the duties before thee,
Ask of thy God and receive.

Refrain:
Never give up, never give up,
Never give up to thy sorrows,
Jesus will bid them depart.
Trust in the Lord, trust in the Lord,
Sing when your trials are greatest,
Trust in the Lord and take heart.

What if thy burdens oppress thee;
What though thy life may be drear;
Look on the side that is brightest,
Pray, and thy path will be clear.

Never be sad or desponding,
There is a morrow for thee;
Soon thou shalt dwell in its brightness,
There with the Lord thou shalt be.

Never be sad or desponding,
Lean on the arm of thy Lord;
Dwell in the depths of His mercy,
Thou shalt receive thy reward.

He Lifted Me

May 29th, 2010

Lyrics and Music: Charles H. Gabriel

In loving-kindness Jesus came,
My soul in mercy to reclaim,
And from the depths of sin and shame
Through grace He lifted me.

Refrain:
From sinking sand He lifted me,
With tender hand He lifted me;
From shades of night to plains of light,
Oh, praise His Name, He lifted me!

He called me long before I heard,
Before my sinful heart was stirred,
But when I took Him at His word,
Forgiv’n, He lifted me.

His brow was pierced with many a thorn,
His hands by cruel nails were torn,
When from my guilt and grief, forlorn,
In love He lifted me.

Now on a higher plane I dwell,
And with my soul I know ’tis well;
Yet how or why, I cannot tell,
He should have lifted me.

They That Wait Upon The Lord

May 27th, 2010

Here’s a hymn which is quite military sounding in nature and based on Isa40:31. It can be found in #753 of the Sacred Songs and Solos hymnal compiled by Ira Sankey.

It’s an old hymn but it is new to me. I hope you like these two stanzas which I have rendered.

Lyrics and Music: James McGranahan

Ho, reapers in
the whitened harvest!
Oft feeble, faint and few;
Come, wait upon
the blessed Master,
Our strength He will renew.

Refrain:
For “they that wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings,
they shall mount up with wings
as eagles,
They shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint;
They shall run and not be weary,
shall walk and not faint.”

Too oft aweary and discouraged,
We pour a sad complaint;
Believing in a living Saviour,
Why should we ever faint?

Rejoice! For He is with us alway,
Lo, even to the end!
Look up!
Take courage and go forward—
All needed grace He’ll send!

Face To Face

May 23rd, 2010

Lyrics: Carrie E. Breck
Music: Grant Colfax Tullar

Face to face with Christ my Savior,
Face to face, what will it be,
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ, who died for me?

Refrain:
Face to face shall I behold Him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all His glory
I shall see Him by and by!

Only faintly now I see Him,
With the darkening veil between,
But a blessed day is coming,
When His glory shall be seen.

What rejoicing in His presence,
When are banished grief and pain;
When the crooked ways are straightened,
And the dark things shall be plain!

Face to face! oh, blissful moment!
Face to face to see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer,
Jesus Christ, who loves me so.

Keep On Believing

May 19th, 2010

This is one of my personal favourites. It is an encouraging hymn amidst trying times. Some more information about this hymn over here.

Lyrics: Lucy Milward Booth, Mildred Duff
Music: Lucy Milward Booth

When you feel weakest, dangers surround,
Subtle temptations, troubles abound,
Nothing seems hopeful, nothing seems glad.
All is despairing ; oftentimes sad.

Refrain:
Keep on believing, Jesus is near.
Keep on believing, there’s nothing to fear ;
Keep on believing, this is the way :
Faith in the night as well as the day.

If all were easy, if all were bright.
Where would the cross be ? where would the fight ?
But in the hardness God gives to you
Chances of proving that you are true.

God is your wisdom, God is your might ;
God’s ever near you, guiding the right ;
He understands you, knows all you need ;
Trusting in Him you’ll surely succeed.

Let us press on, then ; never despair !
Live above feeling, victory’s there ;
Jesus can keep us so near to Him,
That nevermore our faith shall grow dim.

Whosoever Will

May 16th, 2010

Lyrics and Music: Philip P. Bliss

“Whosoever heareth,” shout, shout the sound!
Spread the blessed tidings all the world around;
Spread the joyful news wherever man is found;
“Whosoever will may come.”

Refrain:
“Whosoever will, whosoever will,”
Send the proclamation over vale and hill;
’Tis a loving Father, calls the wanderer home:
“Whosoever will, may come.”

Whosoever cometh need not delay,
Now the door is open, enter while you may;
Jesus is the true, the only Living Way;
“Whosoever will may come.”

“Whosoever will,” the promise secure,
“Whosoever will,” forever must endure;
“Whosoever will,” ’tis life forevermore:
“Whosoever will may come.”
